Just the very appearance of an orangery is enough to leave you salivating at the prospect of making nights in your new nights out. Brickwork dominates the design, but the elegantly shaped pillars and prominent roofing system (classic, cornice, lantern, tiled) are just as attention-grabbing on the eyes.
The Lantern roof is the most common form of roofing system used on orangeries, a roof traceable back to the Middle Ages when it would be the predominant covering for many of our country’s cathedrals. It’s the preferred choice of roof for orangeries due to how effectively it transmits natural light into the heart of the extension and subsequently turns orangeries into amazingly bright and welcoming spaces.
Things are changing though – sold roofs are taking over!
Included in a new-build orangery at the outset, or retrospectively added onto an existing orangery roof, a tile/ slate solid roof assures occupants of internal thermal comfort when external conditions are red hot or below freezing. To counterbalance any loss of natural light that occurs from the installation of a solid roof, you can instruct Pennine to insert roof windows or spotlights into the solid roof or internal pelmet.
How else will it transform things?
Perfect outside views
Do you have a garden that you absolutely love? An orangery will provide you with the most perfect view of it, and when admiring it from indoors, you will have so much more of an urge to head outdoors.
Because of that, it would be a clever move on your part to have French, patio or bi-folding doors inserted into the design, so that you have every excuse to do just that whenever the temptation arises.
Use it how you like
It isn’t pre-determined how you have to use your orangery; that is a decision that entirely rests in your hands.
It could be somewhere you solely look to put your feet up, or convert it into a work space so that you can cut down those lengthy commutes to the office and carry out your work duties at home.
A more valuable home
Speak to any estate agent, and they will tell you that an orangery installation will significantly inflate the resale price of your home, by as much as 20%. It will be a huge selling-point you can emphasise if you ever decide to put your house on the market.
Never seen an orangery in person before? Head for your local Pennine showroom where you can both see one and experience what it would be like to be a long-term owner of these stunning structures.
