This winter, more so than any other winter, we are heavily reliant on our heating system to keep us cosy at home, and you will really pay for that if you’re not on the best energy package and your home isn’t thermally efficient.
Experts have recently given householders a stark warning that energy bills are likely to increase by £171 this year.
You won’t be as financially damaged by your energy bill if you do the following:
Make the switch to a new energy supplier
It’s far easier now to switch energy suppliers than it used to be, and you even have a company like ‘Look After My Bills’ who can take care of finding you a better tariff.
Hopefully you’ve switched suppliers before, but if you haven’t, the carrot of a £300+ annual saving should be all the motivation you need to do it.
Once you reach the end of a fixed-term tariff, or every 12 months, do a further price-check to make an additional saving.
Invest in a new boiler
You have little chance of enjoying a cheaper energy bill if your boiler is particularly old as it will have a very poor efficiency rating.
The initial outlay on a modern energy efficient boiler will be significant, but the returns from the investment will be vast enough to easily cover the fee and earn you a tidy profit on it.
The Energy Saving Trust has provided proof of this through research after finding that an A-rated boiler, lasting 15+ years, can save a household around £340 every year.
Get energy efficient windows and doors installed
If your windows and doors are letting heat easily escape, then it won’t help your cause and you should upgrade to energy efficient windows and doors with the highest energy rating you can afford.
They can minimise heat loss by up to 75%. This percentage figure will rest on how the windows and doors are specified i.e. if they’re double or triple glazed.
You will get great performance out of them for 20 years or so, resulting in an eventual saving of literally thousands of pounds.
